WHAT IS ETHNIC TRANSMISSIONS - IT IS THE SOUND OF CHANGE!

Ethnic Transmissions (ET) is a pop/alternative Iban rock band formed in 2004 in Kuching, Sarawak by Macmillan Jua Lungan (vocals & guitars), Dennis Jonathan Fraude (bass), Daniel Ading (lead guitars), David Barieng Jacques (drums) and Susanna Sinda Juan (keyboards). In 2003, Dennis, Daniel (they were band mates in Sibu where they grew up) and Mac were in a nu-metal band called Pike when during one of their jams, experimented with an alternative rock song that Mac wrote in Iban called ‘Ngarap’. Due to the fact that most Iban songs at the time were either joget or dangdut, they just wanted to hear how the language would sound like sung in a completely different style. To their amazement, quite ok. Pike went on as it did until the band disbanded. Somewhere in 2004 Mac was approached by a local production company with the offer to act in an Iban telemovie called Lagu Sayau. Not only was he to act, he was also asked to compose a song that became the soundtrack for the movie. Mac took up the offer and the song ‘Engka’ came to be. He then asked Su to help him play the keyboards for the production of the song along with Dennis and Daniel, and he also got David who played for a band called Afterglow to help with the drums. Ethnic Transmissions was born. Soon after, 2 more songs and an acoustic version of ‘Engka’ were later recorded and packaged into the band’s debut album entitled ‘Engka’ and released under their self-owned record label Fish*Farm Records.

Our sound is influenced by bands such as:
Gin Blossoms, Def Leppard, The Get-Up Kids, 3rd Eye Blind, Cinammon, Mew, Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessionals, Coldplay, Vertical Horizon, The Color Fred, Jimmy Eat World, All American Rejects etc.

The 'Engka' Ep is available at these selected outlets:
Kuching : Crossway Bookstore (opposite Swak Plaza Pizza Hut)
Ruai Tribal Cafe (under Nomad Bed & Bfast, Jln Green Hill)
Bintulu : Pegari Gallery Cafe
Miri : Merry Cassette & CD center (Imperial Mall & E-Mart)

Elsewhere (all over Msia) you can get the CD by banking in RM16 (p&p incl) into our account and we'll send it right to your doorstep via Pos Laju (correct mailing address & cell phone no required).

We are right now in the midst of pre production for our upcoming 2nd album which will definitely be a step up from ‘Engka’. Progressive, epic and atmospheric would be the best way to describe the sound we will project through our 2nd record. We’ll keep you informed.

Now that we have our foot in the Sarawakian music industry, we intend to kick a dent and leave our footprint in it, inflicting due change. Too long have our people been exploited by the same, stale, unimaginative recycled racket regurgitated by capitalizing and monopolizing taukes who call themselves producers.
It is time for a Mental Evolution and a Musical Revolution.
ET is not about glamour. We are not about fame. We are about change.

To those who have supported us and our strife – thank you so very much
To those with talent who hear a calling to join this movement – we implore you
All of you can make a difference. Let us all make the change!

My dog's foot rug & 'Engka' has sold out!

Wow…. It’s kinda surreal, the fact that it’s almost the year 2009. The word ‘almost’ almost feels like an understatement in relation to the New Year’s proximity. It’s like a sprinter dashing to the finish line. Unstoppable. ‘Catch up!’ would be the precise phrase to apply to certain segments of our lives that we have so deliberately overlook or left behind – the only thing that would make crossing the finish line this year seem incomplete… Personally, I’m quite glad that I’ve sweat & have b… Continue

An answer for DAMA postmortem on Rumahdayak.com that turned into 4 pages

It’s 2 am & I’m eating an apple. Phew.. where do I begin, personally, me writing this is like biting the hand that feeds but I’m gonna do it anyways hehehe. DAMA - This was all done as a ‘start up’ effort to recognize the contributions of local artists & as an official acknowledgement towards the Dayak music industry as a viable economic activity (which it IS, if nurtured). – I think this is super & is longggggggggggggg due. Great cause! Yay! Honest! Ideally, giving out these award… Continue

Dayak Music Awards - the day after the day after DAMA - more of Mac ranting

Phew.....the word 'Cool' & "estatic' could totally describe the feeling I felt when I found out about the award we received. I found out via a phone call I made from sea to my band's lead guitarist who attended the event on the band's behalf. I called my parents twice but they didn't pick up. Then Daniel twice he didn't pick up. I was like Lil John 'What?!'. Then I called him again & this time he rejected my call. My colleague, Wong was like 'hah! brgkali dia itu naik stage mah.......'.… Continue
